Today is the last day of camp, we went to the library and the 3D printing store. It was super interesting seeing all of the objects they made with the 3D printers. It's hard to wrap your brain around that we actually have this technology today! In some countries, they can even print food so maybe this can even end world hunger.
At the 3D printing store, there were 4 printers. Two were the normal one to two color prints, one was a multiple colored and very detailed printer, and one was a printer that can print in over a hundred colors! With this new technology, I think it would be really cool to see these in school since you could even teach about how it works and have kids express their creativity and ideas though this printer. I've really enjoyed this class. It was interesting to learn the techniques to 3D printing and even though it was really fun, I actually learned a lot too! One thing I would like to change though is the blogging we had to do. It was a good way to get our ideas down, but I found it a little tedious to write down everything. But everything else about this class was great! I never thought I would be capable of working with an application that is so advanced before this class, but now I'm very excited to work with it some more!

This object is a cup sleeve. It's purpose is to provide a grip-able surface for when you have a hot beverage in the cup. I noticed this object has lots of gaps in the sleeve. It is circular, so I would have to design it like that. If I customized this I would make it thicker so that you could have a larger surface to hold the cup. I would also change it to not have any gaps so you could also hold it easier. However, I do like the customizable word/number element to it, so maybe I could have a gap-less surface and on top I would have words or numbers. This object is a napkin holder. It has two rectangles of different sizes stacked upon each other for the base. On top of that, is two half circles parallel to each other. In between the half circles is where you put the napkins. If I were to design this, I would definitely keep the base because it is very sturdy.
I want to create something different (something not as big but still useful) than me and my group's book holder. I thought of the problem me and my family sometimes have of board games missing die, so I tried to make a die holder to store them. It worked out, but I just wasn't crazy about the idea. Instead I started to make a book holder which is two clips (they're connected) that hold the pages of your book while you read.
Below are some pictures of my design: This is a sketch of my invention the sock hanger. I repurposed a paper clip to hang socks and I added a thumb tack attached to a clip so it can be hung when the socks aren't being worn. The thumb tack can tuck in when the socks are being washed (so no one gets poked), however the clip can stay on so the socks don't get lost in the wash! Reflection day 1: My group created a book holder today. I really liked the book holder idea because I always hate holding my book open. However, I think I want to edit it so we can print it (it was a little big.) I would like to try and keep the clamps on the book holder to keep the book open, but maybe we can get rid of the stand to make it smaller but still usable. |
